One number, three pictures

Most fraction teaching leans almost entirely on the circle — the "pizza" — and that overreliance quietly reinforces whole-number bias, because a pizza always looks like part of one thing (Mao, Sutherland & Fainstein, 2026). Fraction magnitude lives in the number, not in any one picture, and students build durable understanding when they meet the same fraction across area, length, and set models and recognize it as the same amount every time. This tool shows all three at once — three-fourths as a shaded area, as a point and length on a number line, and as three of four objects in a set — and asks what's the same about them. Deliberately including fractions past one whole matters here too: a set model makes "five-fourths" concrete as five shaded objects where every four make a whole, breaking the pizza's one-whole ceiling.
